Mary Abbott Johnston

Born in Seattle, Washington

Studied at Western Washington University and the Art Institute of Seattle

My childhood was spent combing the beaches and wooded trails of Orcas Island, learning to appreciate nature and all that surrounds us.  Capturing moments with  pencil and paper became commonplace.  At 16, a local gallery accepted my work and sold my first print. I have been so fortunate to have worked and sold in many mediums, including painting, prints, etching, sculpting, bronze casting, batik, photography and welding. There were so many options ahead of me... Teaching art at an alternative High school while in college, eventually settling on a degree in Interior design.

Now, after many years and experiences, I've come full circle and gone back to my first loves, art and nature. Finding new uses for old items and up-cycling whenever possible has become a passion. Art has always been my anchor, and I am excited about the possibilities before me.

I believe in giving back to the community, and helping others.  That is why I donate every year a portion of the proceeds from every sale to various charities.  In 2022 I donated to: Northwest Harvest and Tails of Gray
